From HD to 8K


 

Digital Revolution swept the early 2000s. People began swapping out their bulky CRT monitors for sleek, energy-efficient LCDs. Display technology was entering a new era and flat-panel makers led the way.

We unveiled our debut 22-inch LCD in 2005, followed by ever-larger, more advanced LED-backlit displays and touchscreen devices. But on our journey from HD to 8K, one branch of LCD got left behind.

Reflective LCD (RLCD) was popularized by an iconic handheld gaming console in the 1990s. Its energy efficiency allowed the console to run for hours on just four AA batteries. At the same time, simple solar cells were powering RLCD calculators with no additional power source. 

The energy efficiency of RLCD was unparalleled, but it couldn't match the color performance of our conventional LCD or LED-backlit displays.

All that would change from 2018, as we began developing a new kind of RLCD, which would achieve 30% color reflectance, 3x higher than traditional RLCD. 

Our new RLCD delivers the fast, full-color performance of a conventional LCD with up to 80% less electricity and a more comfortable, paper-like viewing experience.

From 2023, we began integrating this technology across our new portfolio of HANNspree ecoVISION™ products.

Our parent company, HannStar Display Corporation is established in June, 1998.

1998

HannStar implements ISO 14000 environmental management system.

2000

Toshiba Partnership

HannStar signs technology transfer and licensing agreement with Toshiba.

2001

Hitachi Partnership

HannStar signs a number of technical cooperation and licensing agreements with Hitachi for AS-IPS technologies.

HANNS.G Founded

HannStar establishes HANNS.G with a mission of providing excellent quality TFT-LCD products. After the founding of HANNspree, HANN.G gets repositioned as a HANNspree sub-brand.

2002

HANNspree Founded

HannStar establishes HANNspree to serve the global consumer electronics market.

2003

Flagship Store

We open our first flagship store in Taipei, Taiwan.

Novelty TVs

In an era when consumer electronics all look the same, we boldly design a range of playful, novelty TVs. They include apple-shaped TVs, animal-shaped TVs for kids, and several sports-themed product lines for fans of baseball, basketball, football, and soccer.

2004

Flagship Stores

We open our first flagship stores in the US, San Francisco and Beverly Hills.

Casio Partnership

HannStar announces a new partnership with Casio Computer, developing small-to-medium-sized panels for mobile handsets at HannStar's third-generation manufacturing facilities.

Market Debut

We launch our first products on the market, beginning with a 22-inch LCD, followed by a full range of PC monitors.

2005

EU Launch

We establish our European branch offices in Germany and the UK.

2006

Motorsports Sponsorship

James Toseland wins the World Superbike Championship riding a Honda CBR1000RR built by Ten Kate Racing and sponsored by Hannspree. In the same year, Kenan Sofuoğlu dominates the World Supersport Championship, breaking the record for the most wins in one season, riding a Honda CBR600RR for the Hannspree Ten Kate Racing team.

2007

Record Sales

We sell more than 2 million desktop monitor units in Europe.

2008

Flagship Store

We open our first flagship store in Europe, London.

Basketball Sponsorship

We ink a three-year partnership deal with the NBA and WNBA to promote our basketball-shaped TV product line.

HannStar implements QC 080000 hazardous substance process management system.

2010

HannStar implements ISO 14067:2018 guidelines for quantifying the carbon footprint of products.

P-Cap Touch

We are among the first manufacturers to bring capacitive touch technology to the market.

Soccer Sponsorship

We become the official display partner of UK's Watford Football Club. Our partnership continues in 2015 as the club gets promoted into the Premier League.

Automotive Approval

HannStar implements IATF 16949:2016 automotive quality management system.

2017

Aerospace Approval

HannStar implements AS9100D aerospace quality management system.

2019

HANNspree ecoVISION™

HannsNote2 becomes the first product in our paper-like display product line, certified paper-like by TÜV Rheinland with an impressive score of 94 out of 100.
